De Regter ("The judge") is a Dutch version of the French play in three acts by Madame de Genlis (1746-1830)[1].

The original text

Written in French as Le Magistrat, it was one of the short plays contained in the volume Théâtre à l'usage des jeunes personnes by Madame de Genlis (published in 4 volumes in Paris by Panckoucke between 1779-1780).

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch, possibly by Joseph Suasso de Lima.

Performance history in South Africa

1826: Performed in Cape Town on 8 April, by the children's company Tot Oefening en Smaak, probably directed by Joseph Suasso de Lima, with Die Een Kuil Graaft voor Een Ander Valt er Gemeenlyk Zelfs in and De Moedwillige Jongen.
