The Prize, or 2, 5, 3, 8, is a musical farce in two acts by Prince Hoare (1755-1834).

Translated into Dutch as De Lotery Prys, of No. 2,5,3,8. by an anonymous Cape Town Amateur for the company Door Yver Bloeit de Kunst.

Performance history in South Africa

1815: Performed in Cape Town by the English Theatricals company (former Garrison Players) in the African Theatre on 23 September, with Speed the Plough (Morton)

1853: Performed by Door Yver Bloeit de Kunst in the Bree Street Theatre, Cape Town on 28 April ( repeated on 3 May). It was done in the Dutch translation as De Lotery Prys, of No. 2,5,3,8., as afterpiece to Rozella en Guido, of Het Regt der Natuur (Westerman). The company claims - wrongly in the case of "De Lotery Prys" - that "Beide Stukken zullen voor de eerste maal op het Kaapsch Tooneel vertoond worden" (i.e. "the two works are seen on the Cape stage for the first time").
