(b. Naboomspruit, Transvaal, 22/03/1931). Actress, author.

Josephine Anne (Annie) Vera Gibson was the younger sister of Gilbert Gibson. In 1958 she acted with Al Debbo and Frederik Burgers in Pierre de Wet’s film Fratse in die Vloot. She became a popular writer of romantic novels, notably Erika (1959) and, after a lengthy break, Soos Dou op die Rose (1982). She also did some additional writing for Elmo de Witt’s film Sien Jou Môre (1970). At a time when James Hadley Chase’s thrillers were regularly banned, she translated a number of his books into Afrikaans. She married five times and her husbands included filmmaker Walter Heynacker and musician/composer Nico Carstens. For the latter she occasionally provided the text for his record sleeves. (FO)
