Dan Twala
(19**-19**) Actor, radio personality, radio playwright and theatre administrator. Studied and performed at Lovedale College, then joined the Bantu Dramatic Society (BDS), becoming the secretary. In 1936 he and other members of the BDS set up the Bantu People’s Theatre (BPT), persuaded André van Gyseghem to direct O’Neill’s The Hairy Ape and played the lead role of Yank himself. Later became a well known radio personality with the SABC and secretary of the Bantu Sports Club. Played the lead in I.Pinchuk’s Tau for the Bantu People’s Theatre at the African National Theatre festival, 1941 and wrote a radio drama entitled Izinkwa (= bread), which was broadcast in 1948.***
