De Burgerraad
De Burgerraad ("The council of burghers or citizens") is a Dutch comedy by an unknown author.
The original text
Nothing can be found about a text by this name, but according to F.C.L. Bosman (1928: pp. 238-240), a comedy by this name was performed to acclaim in Cape Town, with the audience apparently relishing the references to local political and other figures, issues and events. It may thus even even have been a local text, or at least a localized adaptation of some other play devised by the company.
Performances in South Africa
1826: Performed to acclaim and laughter as an afterpiece to De Boodschaplooper Uit Behoefte in the African Theatre by Tot Nut en Vermaak on 11 November.
