Annie was just 13 when Katinka Heyns picked her to play the part of the young Nina in the film version of Dalene Matthee’s novel Fiela se Kind (1988), the role played by Marchelle Verwey as an adult. She acted in two more films, namely That Englishwoman (Dirk de Villiers/1989) and ‘n Pot Vol Winter (Johan Bernard/1991). In addition she played the title character in the television series Saartjie (Danie Odendaal/1989) and also featured in the series Honeyball se toere (1989), Supersnuiters (Sias Odendaal/1990-91), Die Glaskasteel (Peter Goldsmid, Friedrich Stark & Alwyn Swart/1993) all for the SABC, and Dit Wat Stom Is (Laurence Lurie/2005) for kykNET. She was Head Girl of the Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool in Pretoria in 1992 and became a company director at the age of 19 (for which the High Court had to declare her an adult). Today she is a marketing and promotions entrepreneur and is the CEO of Annie Malan Promotions. (FO)
