Leleti Khumalo is a South African stage, TV and film actress. (Also works as Leleti Kumalo) (1970-) Actress and singer.
Born Born 30-11-1969 in Durbanin Durban,
Married to Mbongeni Ngema for a number of years.
- Obtained an acting diploma from the Mbongeni Ngema Acadmey of Performance Excellence in 2000. Rose to fame when she played the title role in Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina which opened at the Market Theatre on 12 June 1987 before touring extensively. She starred in Mbongeni Ngema’s Magic at 4 a.m at the Civic Theatre in 1993. ***
Films include Sarafina! (1992) , Cry, the Beloved Country (1995) (as Leleti Kumalo) , Yesterday (2004) , Hotel Rwanda (2004) and Faith's Corner (2005) . She married Mbongeni Ngema in 1991. *
1999: Stage play The Zulu.; 2006: Currently in the popular South African soap opera Generations.
She received a 1988 Tony Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for Sarafina!
She played the leading role in South Africa's first Oscar-nominated film Yesterday.
