The original text
A play about the controversial South African poet Roy Campbell, won a string of awards, including the SACPAC Playwriting Award for Best Play in 1993 and the Vita Playwright of the Year Award for 1995/96. The E.P. Herald called it "a masterful work that has earned a niche in the sparse collection of great South African theatrical endeavours".

Staged at the Alexander Theatre in June 1995 and the Momentum Theatre in July 1995, directed by Anthony Akerman, with Jamie Bartlett (Roy Campbell), Camilla Waldman (Mary Campbell), Jennifer Steyn (Vita Sackville-West), David Clatworthy (Laurens van der Post), Thomas Hall (William Plomer) and Alex Ferns (Uys Krige).
Presented by PACT Drama by arrangement with DALRO at the National Arts Festival, 1995, with the same cast. Designed by Sarah Roberts, lighting designer and production manager Jacques Mulder.
