Plastics is a play by Shirley Johnston about the struggle of four Sandton housewives against the onslaught of poverty and finding salvation in Tupperware. SACPAC Best Playwright Award 1991.

Produced in 7 centres around SA, directed by Johnston, with **, *** and in Adelaide, Australia for International Women’s Playwright Festival.

1993: Presented by PACT at the Alexander Theatre and at the Momentum Theatre in 1993, directed by Jacqui Singer and starring Gaby Lomberg, Louise Saint-Claire, Henrietta Gryffenberg, and Motshabi Tyelele. Design by Lindy Roberts, choreography by Jeanette Ginslow, musical/original score by Michele Maxwell. This production was also staged on the Fringe, National Arts Festival.

1994: Directed by Blaise Koch, Nico Arena 5-26 March, with Jana van Niekerk (Fiona Farquharson), Lynita Crofford (Hester Olivier), Nomkhita Bavuma (Maria Maktini), Billy Second (Caroline Whelton-Smythe). Design by Keith Anderson, costumes by Fanie Steenkamp, music by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder and lighting by Patrick Curtis. Choreography by Charl-Johan Lingenfelder and Blaise Koch.
