(1908-19**) Political activist and playwright. Born in 1908 and completed about seven years of schooling. Became a life-long activist in both the Communist Party of South Africa and the African National Congress (ANC). Wrote the Bantu People’s Theatre group’s first play by an African, namely The Rude Criminal, performed at the African National Theatre festival in 1941. He later became the leader of the Alexandra bus boycotts. ***
