Biography
Training
Studied Drama at the University of Stellenbosch under Robert Mohr and Babs Laker. He graduated in 1959.
Career
He first worked for Volksteater. In 1961 he became a member of the NTO Youth Drama group. From 1963 onwards he acted on a regular basis for CAPAB, PACT and PACOFS.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He translated A Midsummer Night's Dream into Afrikaans, with the title Somernagdroom; Dagboek van ‘n Waansinnige (Diary of a Madman) by Nikolai Gogol; Medea; translated into Afrikaans and adaptated for the stage a short story by Thomas Hardy, The Three Strangers as Die Drie Vreemdelinge; translated What Men Live By by Virginia Church as Daarvan Leef die Mens. He translated works by G.R. Crosher and Gordon Daviot as 'n Maaltyd vir die Student and Onthou vir Caesar respectively.
As a student he had a role in Robert Mohr's production of Mother Courage (1958).
He acted in Die Gebreekte Kruik (PACT, 1963); Die Renosters, 1963; Montserrat; Die Skuld van Oedipus, 1963; Hansie die Hanslam, 1969; Bart Nel (CAPAB 1972); Die Blindes, 1970 and 1973; So Long vir Johnny, 1974; Piekniek op die Slagveld, 1974: Die Geldpot in 1980.
He wrote the children’s play Die Towerboek van Kammalielieland.
He played in the film My Naam is Dingetjie.
