The Cameron Arts Theatre Company was formed in 1987 as a bridge between the highly polarised performing arts in South Africa. It seeks the bridge the gap between protest and non-protest theatre, the gap between international and local theatre and the gap between Black an White theatre.

Cameron Arts hopes to achieve the above by presenting a varied cross section of each type of theatre each year, by itself and in collaboration with other organisations and managements, nationally, and at competitive prices.

Associates of Cameron Arts Theatre Company include Terrence Shank, Bess Finney, James Mtoba, Drummond Marais, Theunis van Rooyen, Bree McCall and Cole Cameron. The first production presented was Above the Wind.
