Above the Wind is a play by American playwright John Olive [1] (born 1949), who lives in the Minnesota farm belt. He has written several plays, all concerned with the rural values and area from which he hails.

Performance history in South Africa

Presented by Cameron Arts Theatre Company in association with PACT, directed by Terrence Shank, starring Bess Finney (Sara Herman), James Mthoba (Nqlobo Mbele), Drummond Marais (Dominee Retief) and Theunis van Rooyen/Bruce Alexander (Sersant Potgieter). The play was workshopped over a period of several months by the actors and director and reset in South Africa in 1953 on a small Free State Farm with the author's blessing. Above the Wind was seen at the Nico Arena 9-27 February 1987, Alexander Theatre 2-19 March 1987 Observatory Theatre Bloemfontein 22-30 March 1987, Loft Theatre, Durban, 6-24 April 1987, The Potpourri Festival in Pretoria and at the Windybrow Theatre in June 1987 and at the Grahamstown Festival July 1987.
