Southern Africa is sometimes used to refer to the countries of the south, including South Africa, but to also a slightly broader geographic and cultural area, including neighbouring countries, such as Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, etc.

The adjective Southern African is at times employed to indicate this when discussing cultural and other activities that reach beyond the borders of a particuilar country.
