Written in 1809, published in Neueste deutsche Schaubühne by Bolling, 1810
Translations and adaptations
Translated into Dutch and published as De Verstrooiden by J.S. van Esveldt-Holtrop in 1809. Sometimes appears with the subtitle "of het door verstrooidheid bewerkt huwelijk".
Performance history in South Africa
1829: Performed in Stellenbosch on 25 April with the title wrongly given as De Verstrooying, but internal evidence (e.g. the names of the characters) indicates that it was indeed the Von Kotzebue play. This was possibly the first play done in Stgellenbosch by the local amateurs.
