An English translation of Anton Chekhov's 1887 one-act play about an old actor who spends the night reminiscing about his life and career in an empty theatre.
Originally translated into English by Marian Fell and published in 1912 by Charles Scribner's Sons.
Since then translated and adapted a number of times, eg.
1998: Translated by Paul Schmidt for his book The Plays of Anton Chekhov;
2014: Translated and adapted by Michael Frayn for production as part of the 2014 Play Pieces presentations at Elgin and Inverness, directed by Garry Collins.
