Fish Hoek High School Theatre
The school
Founded in
The architect of the original school building was Jack Barnett. His previous work included theBaxter Theatre at UCT in Rondebosch. The school has a similar style: columns finished in pale brick and plenty of glass, creating a well-lit and airy atmosphere.
The complex, designed in consultation with the staff, incorporates several special facilities. These include a lecture theatre capable of seating 180, workshops and a school hall-cum-theatre seating about 600.
Of the workshops, only one remains (for Electrical Technology) while the others have been sub-divided to provide additional space, e.g. classrooms and a drama studio.
The Terry Hepworth Hall
Though it is more often referred to simply as the Fish Hoek High Theatre , the school hall-cum-theatre is formally known as the Terry Hepworth Hall, after the headmaster who inspired the formation of the Senior High and Middle Schools. The theatre has been put to good use over the years and sound and lighting facilities slowly improved. Among its most regular patrons has been the Fish Hoek Dramatic Society and its One-Act Play Festival.
