De Wanhoop van Jocrisse
A prose comédie-folie in two acts by Dorvigny (Louis-François Archambault, 1742-1812). The original French title was Le Désespoir de Jocrisse, and it was first performed in Paris at the Théâtre Montansier, on 22 November 1791.
Translated into Dutch as De Wanhoop van Jocrisse by Hendrik Ogelwight (Junior) in 1798 and published in Amsterdam by Pieter Johannes Uylenbroek.
Performance history in South Africa
The Dutch version performed in Cape Town by Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense on 26 September 1815, followed by Eerzucht en Behoefte, of De Huwelyksscheiding uit Liefde (Patrat; tr Kup).
