The Ball at the Castle by Joan Bright. A play about Lady Anne Barnard, it was a runner-up in the competition for original plays written for The Van Riebeeck Festival. Produced by NTO in 1952 as part of the Festival, it was performed in the courtyard of the Castle in Cape Town form 17 to 22 March. Directed by Gwen ffrangçon-Davies, also in the role of Lady Barnard. Mathilde Hanekom returned to the stage in this play for the first time since her husband, Hendrik Hanekom passed away.
