Radio Port Natal began its first official broadcast in May 1967 from the new SABC Broadcasting House at 100 Fort Road, serving the Durban area. Sarel Marais was the first male voice on air, accompanied by Laetitia Vorster. The station grew in popularity into the 1970s, heavily featuring local personalities and shows.
