The Atterbury Theatre opened its doors on 18 May 2011 with a performance of Stuur groete aan Mannetjies Roux.
The theatre was constructed as part of the Lynnwood Bridge development by Atterbury Property Developments and forms part of the Atterbury Trust initiative, with the students funded by the Trust work as interns as part of their training..
In 2024 the venue was renamed The Fairtree Atterbury Theatre (Fairtree Atterbury-teater in Afrikaans).
