Apolline Sarah Niay-Darroll (1899-1942). Music teacher.

Biography

A.R.C.M., L.R.A.M.; of Northumberland Avenue, London, N.W.I. Daughter of George and Apolline Niay Darroll, of Cape Town, South Africa.

Died aboard SS. Ceramic, sunk by enemy submarine in the Atlantic Ocean, west of the Azores, on the night 6/7 December 1942.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

South African College of Music (SACM) was founded by a group of musicians led by Madame Apolline Sarah Niay Darroll, opened in 1910 in Strand Street, Cape Town, with six students.
