Hans van Heerden (?-) is an opera singer and opera teacher.

Biography

Hans van Heerden studied in Vienna. He became principal baritone at the opera houses of Ulm, Bonn, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt, as well as making guest appearances throughout Germany. He returned to South Africa in the early 1970s.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

In 1978 he was appointed head of opera for PACOFS and since 1991 he was head of the Opera School of the erstwhile Pretoria Technikon.

He has appeared in a wide variety of roles in South Africa: for CAPAB in Der Fliegende Hollander and Fidelio, for PACOFS in the Tales of Hoffmann, Carmen and Nabucco, for PACT as Jokanaan in Salome and Friederich von Telramund in Lohengrin to name a few. He also played the role of Pritschitsch in The Merry Widow for PACT and Baron Scarpia in Tosca for PACOFS.

He played "Leporello" in Don Giovanni for Pro Musica Productions in 2007.
