Biography
He studied acting at both Rita Maas and the Cape Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating with honours. He also studied scriptwriting and directing at Regardt van den Bergh's film school and has both ATCL and LTCL diplomas in teaching speech and drama from Trinity College, London.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Roberts has appeared in over forty professional productions on the stage and has played leading and supporting roles in over eighty local and international television and film productions, as well as a radio drama for the SABC.
He directed began his directing career with the film Capitalist Pigs (2008).
In 2012 Matthew was nominated for Best Actor for his performance in the short film Orange Blank Blue (2012) . Most recently Matthew was again nominated for Best Actor for Freedom Road at the Los Angeles 168 Film Festival, alongside Stephen Baldwin and Nate Parker. He attended the award ceremony in California.
