Alfred Carrington Wylde (18?? - March 21, 1894) was a Patron of the Arts in Port Elizabeth.

Biography

Alfred Carrington Wylde was Secretary to the Chief Justice of the Cape (1848), an attorney and notary of the Supreme Court (January 1851), Clerk of the Peace for the Uitenhage District, Resident Magistrate for Port Elizabeth in 1857 and 1870+. He was a Captain in the Port Elizabeth Volunteer Rifles, later Prince Alfred's Guard and was later a Colonel in this same regiment.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

August 6, 1862: The Grand Romantic Drama of The Sea Of Ice, was presented under the patronage of Captain Alfred Carrington Wylde.

Awards, etc

Wylde Bridge over the Swartkops River, Port Elizabeth, Wylde Street in Grahamstown and Wylde Street, Stutterheim, are named after him.
