Performance history in South Africa
1977: Staged as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... and beyond by PACT Playwork, adapted and directed by Nigel Vermaas, with a cast including Craig Stein, Robin Malan, Gerben Kamper, Alwyn Swart, Lochner de Kock, Allan Goldstein, Gillian Harris, Charles Whaley, Alan Swerdlow, Bo Petersen, Lisa Waldbaum, Peter Terry, Gregory Wallace, Reg Britz, John Rogers, Pierre van Pletzen and others. Assistant Director Peter Terry, Musical Director/Composer Laurika Rauch and choreographer Bo Petersen.
2000: Staged by the Stellenbosch Drama Department as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, performed in the H.B. Thom Theatre during April. Directed by Shirley Johnston with a large cast that included Ranza Skordis, Merlin Balie, Neels van Jaarsveld, Marnus Els, Elana Afrika, Tanya Baleson, Niël Rademan, Graeme Bootsma, Lindi Smit and Stefan Blignaut. The production crew included Michelle Pietersen (production manager and lighting design), Marisa Steenkamp (stage manager), Leopold Senekal (set design), Zani Nel (sound design), Elrina Marais (costume design) and Kobus Rossouw (head technician).
