The Friend
The Friend is a South African newspaper published in Bloemfontein since 1899
Originally published as Friend of the Sovereignty and Bloemfontein Gazette (1850-1854), and in August 1854 the publication was renamed Friend of the Free State and Bloemfontein Gazette (published by Barlow Bros. & Co.), publishing articles in English, Dutch and Afrikaans. It became a semiweekly publication in August 1890 and finally ceased publication in March 1900.
