[“The consuming fire” - Afrikaans] by W.A. de Klerk, a 3-act Afrikaans play based on the life of Dr Semmelweis, an idealistic medical practitioner seeking a cure for puerperal fever, as described by Céline. Published in Drie Dramas, 1947.

First production directed by Truida Pohl, 4 and 5 May 1945, Hofmeyr Hall. With Suzanne van Wyk, Kobus van der Colff, Willem van der Berg, Ria Olivier, Fred le Roux as Dr Semmelweis.

Performed by Volksteater in Pretoria in 1946.
