Moffie
Moffie is a South African film by Oliver Hermanus.
Based on Moffie ("fag"), a memoir of the South African Border War during the Apartheid era, by Andre Carl van der Merwe (published ),, the film was produced by Eric Abraham and Jack Sidey, and co-produced by Theresa Ryan-Van Graan, for Portobello Productions and Penzance Films. Directed by Oliver Hermanus, the film features Kai-Luke Brummer, Ryan De Villiers, Matthew Vey, Stefan Vermaak and Hilton Pelser.
Awards
Moffie is the winner of The Mermaid Award (best LGBTQI-themed film) at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, and nominated for the Orizzonti Prize and the Queer Lion Award at the Venice International Film Festival, the best feature film at the London Film Festival, Best Director (Oliver Hermanus), Breakthrough Producer (Jack Sidey) and Best Cinematography (Jamie D Ramsay) at the British Independent Film Awards and for the Screen International Critics Choice at the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF) and has been hailed by critics.
