Yvette Hardie (1969-) is a theatre advocate, producer, director, educator, writer and actor.


Biography

Training

In 1986 she matriculated from Pinelands High, then went to the University of Cape Town to complete a Performers’ Diploma in Speech and Drama and a Bachelor of Arts degree (cum laude) in English and Drama in 1990. Thses were followed by a B.A. (Honours) in English (University of South Africa, 1993), a Magister Technologiae (Drama) in Voice and Speech at the Technikon Pretoria (2000). Next she did a Professional Teaching Certificate at the Lessac Training and Research Institute (2003) and Two SAQA-accredited unit standards in Assessment (7978 and 7976)in 2004.

Career

Head of Drama Department at the National School of the Arts, Johannesburg (2002). She has taught at the South African School of Film, Television and Dramatic Art for four years.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Acting

Stage roles include The Rimers of Eldritch, Pale Souls, Let the Spear Fit the Wound, Zones of Peace.

A Freelance director/producer for FreeVoice Productions (2008 ongoing), she has directed numerous productions for the NSA, including The Free State. She was the producer of Truth in Translation in South Africa (2006-7). Directed Between Cup and Lip (Kemble Elliot [1]) NAF 2008.

Management and arts advocacy

Founding director of ASSITEJ South Africa,, Chairperson: ASSITEJ South Africa (2007 – 2011), President of ASSITEJ International (2011-2020), Director: ASSITEJ South Africa (2011 - ongoing), in addition to being Deputy Chairperson: ACYTA (African Children and Youth Theatre Arena) (2011 - ongoing) and Deputy Chairperson: Arterial Network South Africa (2010-2014)
