The Amen Corner is a play by American essayist, playwright and novelist James Baldwin (1924-1987) [1]. The Amen Corner is his subtle, vitrioloic critique of long-held notions of what is meant by soul and the fire that burns within us, how we allow ourselves be consciously shaped by any explicit religious idea.

Performance history in South Africa

2008: Directed by James Ngcobo at the Laager Theatre, starring Ilse Klink (Margaret), Elton Landrew (Luke), Sello Sebotsane, Baby Cele (Odessa).
