(Richard Horatio). (1875-1932) Journalist, editor, poet, novelist and playwright. *** Came to South Africa as a member of the British Medical Corps in Simonstown. Then became a journalist for Reuters and became the first editor of the Rand Daily Mail (1902-3). He also wrote a play about Rhodes, called An African Millionaire, which was put on by Leonard Rayne and failed miserably. Wrote the first scenario for the film King Kong. Later became world famous for his detective stories.
