Mickey Malan aka The Great White Hope was written by Morné Visser.
The original text
Initially developed as a film script and then a one-man show, Visser has turned the play into a two-hander. It is the story of a heavyweight boxer who gears up for a comeback fight and of Malan's trainer and life-long friend Cedrick Ndlovu.
Performance history in South Africa
1997: First performed at the KKNK in 1997 as a one-man show, starring the author.
2004: Directed by Carolyn Lewis, starring Morné Visser and Cedrick Ndlovu played by Nceba Mpiliswana at the Intimate Theatre, Cape Town.
