Rinaldo Rinaldini, der große Räuberhauptmann in Calabrien ("Rinaldo Rinaldini, the great robber chief of Calabria") is a play in five acts by August von Kotzebue, based on the 1797 novel by Christian August Vulpius (1762–1827).


The original text

The melodramatic and romantic German novel Rinaldo Rinaldini, der Räuberhauptmann by Christian August Vulpius (1762–1827), was published in Leipzig in 1797 or 1798. (The novel translated into English as The History of Rinaldo Rinaldini, Captain of Banditti by I.Hinkley, published New York, 1848.)

Adapted for the stage by August von Kotzebue as Rinaldo Rinaldini, der große Räuberhauptmann in Calabrien and first performed the Privilegirtes Theater in Düsseldorf and Aachen; published in Düsseldorf 1820.
