La Meunière De Gentilly

La Meunière De Gentilly ("The milleress from Gentilly") is a French prose comedy in one act by Pierre-René Lemonnier (1731-1796)[1], first performed in 1768 and published in 1770.

There are variations in spelling , for the 1770 cover page has: "La meuniere de Gentilly : comédie en un acte, mélée d'ariettes / par M. Le Monier, représentée, pour la premiere fois par les Comédiens Italiens ordinaires du Roi, le jeudi 13 octobre 1768." (Published: A Paris : Chez Merlin, 1770) while the 2011 Amazon paperback version has "La Meunière De Gentilly: Comédie En Un Acte, Mêlée D'ariettes..." and writes the author's name Pierre-René Lemonnier


South African productions

1805: First performed in the original French on 30 September 1805 in the African Theatre, Cape Town by the French Company founded by Villet. Mr Delémery was "Jean de Blanc". The other plays performed are Le Mariage Forcé (Molière) and La Clochette (Anseaume).
