OLWAGEN, Christiaan (1987-) Actor, director and playwright.


Biography

He was raised in Pretoria


Youth

Training

Studied drama at Stellenbosch University, completing a master's degree in drama on adaptations of Shakespeare's Hamlet.


Career

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

Since 2011 he has directed a number of plays professionally, including N is vir Neurose (written by Olwagen), Woza Andries!? (written by Robert Volker, reworked by Olwagen and cast in rehearsal), Vagina Dentata (improvised by the cast) and Ubu en die Secrecy Bill (written by Olwagen). In 2012 **, 2013 Wie's bang vir Virginia Woolf?, Wie Drink Wat? 2013), Dogma 2014, A Doll's House

He wrote and directed the screenplay for the short film Toevlug.

Awards, etc

He was the 200* winner of the Fleur du Cap Award for most promising student.

He was the recipient of the prestigious Young Artist Award and directed A Doll's House at the National Arts Festival, 2015, in that capacity.

Toevlug was the winner of the best screenplay, best director and best short film at the KykNet Silwerskermfess in 2013.
