Killing No Murder

A farce in two acts by Theodore Edward Hook (1788-1841), with music by Mr Hook, Snr (1746-1827).

The original text

First performed at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in 1809. A scene ridiculing Methodists was suppressed by order of the Lord Chamberlain, but later published.

Published in London: Printed by W. Flint, for S. Tipper, 1809.

Performance history in South Africa

1823: Apparently a copy of the music for this play was sought by the Garrison Players, though no performance is recorded in this year.

1829: Performed by the English Theatrical Amateur Company on 3 October, with The Curfew (by "Tobois")
