The Mysteries of Udolpho
A popular and influential Gothic novel by Ann Ward Radcliffe, first published in four volumes on 8 May 1794 by G. G. and J. Robinson of London.
Dramatised versions
The novel has been adapted to a variety of forms over the years.
It was dramatized in French as Montoni; ou, Le chateau d'Udolphe a melodrama in 5 acts by Alexandre Duval. First performed at the Théatre de S.M. l'Impératrice, on 29 July 1813.
The French version was in turn translated into Dutch by A. Bruggemans as Montoni, of Het Kasteel van Udolpho (published 1800).
