Benefactors written in 1984 by English playwright and novelist Michael Frayn (1933-*). A play, set in the 1960s, about the contrasting natures of those who help and those who are helped; those who create and those who destroy. First staged in London in 1984 winning the Olivier Award for Best New Play before its Broadway premiere in 1985.

Performance history in South Africa

1985: First staged in South Africa in on 1 April 1985 by Pieter Toerien in association with Michael Codron, directed by Rex Garner and starring Richard Haines, Robert Whitehead, Fiona Ramsay and Vanessa Cooke. Designed by Andrew Botha, lighting by Jannie Swanepoel, costumes by Noreen Sterling. Alhambra Theatre and Baxter Concert Hall April-May 1985.
