The South African Society Theatre Research (SASTR) was a short-lived academic association, founded at a meeting of the Association of Drama Departments of South Africa (ADDSA) in Stellenbosch in 1999.
Its aim was to support and promote theatre studies in the country and to this end organised annual conferences on drama, theatre and other performance forms, hosted by the various Universities in the country.
The founding president was Stellenbosch professor Temple Hauptfleisch, followed by Professor Allan Munro .
The society ceased to exist after 2002.
