20th Century Cinema Theatre

20th Century Cinema Theatre was a cinema in Fleet Street, East London (now KuGompo City).

The venue

The theatre accommodated 800 people on a single floor and was air-conditioned by means of a refrigerating system. Patrons entered the theatre via a "crush hall" and then the foyer. In the foyer, which was the biggest in the city for this type of theatre, there was an Alvar soda-water fountain. The seats in the theatre were of leather, upholstered in mohair. They were specially made for the 20th Century Theatre in Canada, and a firm in England made the specially designed carpets for the cinema. The air-conditioning refrigeration plant, the electrical fittings and sound equipment were also imported from Canada and the United States.
