From the Hip: Khulumakahle is a theatre and education company for deaf/hearing performers.

Also known as FTH:K.

The company

Set up in 2005 to that develop deaf and hearing performer-creators, and to facilitate the integration of deaf learners into the South African performing arts.

Without a dependency on any one language, its work crosses over cultural and linguistic divides and calls on audiences to "Listen With Your Eyes" and the performing company has toured all over South Africa, Germany, Argentina and in the USA, reaching more than 70 000 people in nine years.

The company has won multiple awards for this work,m including including the ACT Cultural Development Project Award for 2005 and the 2011 Fleur du Cap award for Innovation in Theatre.

Performances

FTH:K productions include the Deaf/ Hearing production Gumbo (2006)Ek Roep Vir Jou Vanaand (their first all-Deaf show, 2009), OfficeBLOCK, Pictures of You, Benchmarks (in association with A Conspiracy of Clowns), , QUACK!, Womb Tide, What Goes UP… (2015).
