Soweto Dance Theatre was started by Jackie Semela and was based at the Donaldson Orlando Community Centre (DOCC). In the early 1990s, it was one of the organisations instrumental in making modern dance a viable profession for Soweto dancers, and it hosted several events that helped build awareness of modern dance in Soweto.
