Horatius can refer to the Roman lyric poet, the English title of the French play Horace by Pierre Corneille or to the nom de plume used by a South African author and playwright.

Horatius the poet (65 BC- 8 BC)

Horatius the play

Written by the French dramatist Pierre Corneille (1606 - 1684), with the title Horace[1], first performed in 1680 and published in 1641. Translated into English under the title Horatius.

I.G. Horak (1869-1944) was an author and playwright who on occasion used the nom de plume Horatius

Biography

Born Isaac Gerhardus Horak on 12 May 12, 1869, he died on 27 September 1944.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He wrote a verse history of the South Arican history called Zuid Afrika : een beknopt overzicht van onze geschiedenis in vers van 1486 tot 1909 and the play Mag is Reg ("Might is right", 1917), the latter under the nom de plume Horatius.
