Verdi Opera Company
The Verdi Opera Company was one of a number of opera companies that visited South Africa between 1887-1912.
This particular company was founded in 1880 by Australian singer and actress Emilie Melville and her husband Guglielmo Verdi (or William Verdi), who toured with her company in the second half of the 19th century.
They visited the country in 1890, opening in the Cape Town Opera House with Faust during in August, though - according to Boonzaier, 1923, not that popular with the public.
