Alex Kiddie was a set and costume designer in Port Elizabeth's amateur theatre. He was also a History of Art teacher at the Port Elizabeth Technical College.

Biography

Born: ????.

He took his B.A. in Fine Arts at Rhodes University and soon afterwards spent three years studying painting at the Polytechnic School of Art in London.

He then returned to Kimberley, his home town, where he designed and painted scenery for the New Kimberley Theatre.

He moved again to England in 1958 and studied Theatre Design at the Central School.

In 1960 he moved to Port Elizabeth and joined the staff of the Technical College Art School, where he gained a reputation as an authority on the history of art.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

1967: Working in close association with Thelma Kohler, he made beautiful drawings and models for the sets for The School for Scandal, produced at the Collegiate School for Girls by Dorothy Sutherland.

1973: Set and Costume Designer for Noel Morgan]]'s production of Life With Father at PEMADS Little Theatre.

1974: Set Designer for the Collegiate School for Girls Centenary production of The Gondoliers.
