The Miser of Shoreditch is a romantic drama in two acts by T.P. Prest ()[].

The original text

An adaptation by Prest of his own novel, The Miser of Shoreditch, or The Curse of Avarice ("An original historical legendary romance of the fifteenth century"), published in 1849, the play was first performed as The Miser of Shoreditch at the Royal Standard Theatre, Shoreditch on 2 November, 1854 and published in Lacy's Acting Edition of Plays volume XVIII. Published in New York as The Miser of Shoreditch]] and termed "A drama by Angelina" (i.e. T.P. Prest) in 1857.

Performance history in South Africa

1864: Performed by the amateurs of the 11th Regiment in the Garrison Theatre, Cape Town, on 5 April, with Slasher & Crasher (Morton).
