David Piedt
David Piedt (1940-2020) was a teacher, cultural leader and storyteller.

Biography
Born David Arthur Piedt in Oudtshoorn on 21 March, 1940,
An political activist during the Apartheid era, he would later work in various forums in pursuit of a better society, including organizations in education, the church, NGOs and the arts.
He was also the founder of the Civil Servants Pension Redress Movement (CSPRM)[1], of which he remained the chairperson till his death on 27 July 2020.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He was one of the founding members of the committee that brought the Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK) into being and was chairman of the board for a while.
He served on the Council of the University of Stellenbosch
Awards, etc
Besides various educational awards, he received an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Stellenbosch for his contributions to education and culture and in 2020 received an Arts Unlimited award for his important contribution to the KKNK and the community of Oudtshoorn.
In recognition of his role at the KKNK, the festival introduced a new discussion forum in 2020, one entitled Die David Piedt-gespreksreeks ("the David Piedt discussion-series") aimed at creating a space where a tapestry of the South African society may be woven through the many untold stories of its citizens.
