Mandla Mbothwe is a South African writer, researcher, stage director, performance teacher and creative arts practitioner.


Biography

He holds a MA in Theatre and Performance from University of Cape Town.


Contribution to South African theatre, film, media and performance

For eight years he was a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Drama at the University of Cape Town, while also functioning as managing and artistic co-director of Magnet Theatre. , where he later served as a board member.


For them he created and directed Ingcwaba Lendoda Lise Cankwe Ndlela (2009),

He directed Did We Dance! Ukutshona ko Mendi: Did We Dance, 2012 (Sunday Times, 4 March 2012).

From 2011 to 2013 he was the Artistic Director for the Steve Biko Centre (King Williamstown), while remaining a board member of Magnet Theatre.

In 2014 he became the Creative Manager for the Artscape Theatre Centre.

In 2015/16 Mbothwe co-directed Thando Doni's Ityala la Mawele ("The Lawsuit of the Twins"), with the author at the Artscape Theatre, Cape Town and the National Arts Festival, Grahamstown.
