Ashwin Singh is an attorney, lecturer, playwright, director and actor.

Biography

Singh is also a published poet and academic author.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As a playwright he is a three-time national award winner in the PANSA/NLDTF Playreading Festival, and his plays include To House (2003), Spice 'n Stuff, Shooting and Marital Blitz (co-written with Kajal Maharaj and Nesan Pather) Duped (2005), Reoca Light, Beyond the Big Bangs,

His plays have appeared in several collections, including New South African Plays (edited by Charles Fourie, 2006), Durban Dialogues, Indian Voice: Five South African Plays (2013), Durban Dialogues: Then and Now (2018),

As a performer he has received critical acclaim for his performances on stage, radio and film. For example he played a lead role in UK director James Brown’s short film about child abuse, One Wedding and a Funeral.

As a lecturer he has presented several workshops on contracts and business enterprises for PANSA, The Playhouse Company and Catalina UnLtd.

He is currently the artistic director of AshTal (Pty) Ltd, a company he runs with his sister and mentor, Shantal Singh.
